Web accessibility design

WAI - Web Accessibility Initiative - WCAG 1.0 - WAI - XHTML 1.0 - XML - CSS

Web accessibility is about producing sites for everyone, regardless of age, experience, disability or available technology. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) is the recognised standard by which accessibility is assessed.

"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web

It is increasingly necessary to make sure that your website is accessible so that it complies with anti-discrimination laws such as the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

Has your website been designed to be accessible and usable for the widest possible audiences?

Not sure, well we're here to help.

You can perform a basic accessibility test of your site by using tools such as Cynthia or Bobby. Please bear in mind that these validators can only check one page of your site at a time. Automatic tools cannot 100% confirm the true accessibility of your site and there are a number of problems associated with automated accessibility tools.

To confirm a website is compliant to the current anti-discrimination laws Twist Web enroll the services of a pan-disability group in Wales who test to ensure that your website is accessible.

This is the only true confirmation that your site can and has been accessed by users with a range of disabilities.
